We're friends. We speak about many things. I told him I would help you if I could.
[ Istredd assumes this is a time is of the essence situation otherwise he might explain more, but he assumes once John gets to Geralt, it won't really matter. It's possible this might come back to him if people saw John come here, but he will deal with that if it ends up happening. He can easily say John simply said he was going to Nott and that was the last he heard. ]
Gerat gave me that coin. It will pay for one person to leave here. He trusted that I would use it wisely.
[ So the coin isn't his, but it wasn't given to him specifically for John. Technically, Geralt gave it to him for himself. Or River. But he'll save up coin again for River another time. Geralt wants John to come to him, so this money should be spent to save him. It's that simple. ]
Good luck and be safe, John. Please let me know when you arrive safely in Cadens, as Geralt will not bother doing so.
[Ah. Well, that does explain some things. Such as how Geralt knew he would have the means to help, and why he would direct John to Istredd in the first. It’s true that they don’t have a lot of time to stand around and talk about this, not with the timeline John has been given. He wonders how much Geralt and Istredd have spoken about his situation however, given the fact that he has asked no questions at all.]
I will. Geralt has confidence that he will be able to find me, no matter where the portal might spit me out.
[And John has to have confidence that Geralt knows what he is doing.
He hesitates for a moment, before stepping forward to clasp the other man on the shoulder.]
Thank you, my friend. I owe you a great debt, for this and all the help you have given me.
He'll find you, I wouldn't worry about that. There's no telling if the Free Cities will welcome you or see you as a spy, so just be prepared for their questions.
[ On one hand, they'll probably like that they got to steal a Summoned from Thorne, it's a nice 'fuck you' to Sidwell. On the other, there are reasons to fear spies from Thorne into their territory, so they might have to keep an eye on him. Either way, Istredd has faith that Geralt will handle it, he knows the Free Cities intimately well. John will be safer there than he is here.
He smiles at John and mirrors his gesture, putting a hand on his shoulder and squeezing it reassuringly. ]
You can buy me a drink in Nocwich when you're on the other side of this.
