[ Istredd could have found him easily on his own but asking was giving Lucifer the option to rebuff him. He probably would have shown up sooner or later to check in, but this at least gives Lucifer a warning that he's coming. It's obvious that he could have simply gone there considering he knows exactly where in the gardens to go.
He doesn't actually care that they're in a semi-public place since they are off to the side, and none of that avoiding PDA matters in a situation like this. Istredd reaches out very gently to put a hand on his shoulder when he gets to him, crouching down. He doesn't ask what happened. That is up to Lucifer, he knows when to not push. ]
