They are as polite as the situation can be, considering they're keeping us captive.

We have food and access to personal items and books, not an unpleasant dungeon all around.

I truly don't know. I can't tell if they are waiting between questioning due to being busy or making us sweat. I don't think we're in danger, per se.

This detainment is more symbolic than genuine, I think.

Yes. Jolene did, and she works for Anastasia, the Duchess of Hayle. High Mage Ambrose's sister. I assume that's why he managed to get out of the castle before it went down too, he's in Nott with the others. Did Kyle not mention this?

I know that both of you had a chance to leave, and chose not to. That seems to be more pertinent.

We had our reasons. Similar ones, I imagine. The downside (or upside?) to making strong bonds with the other Summoned in this sphere.

Yes. You both want to protect the other Summoned who remain at the castle, which is accomplished quite well from the dungeon, I'm sure.

If we get detained for a bit and then released, it was a risk worth taking.

If we get executed, you and Lucifer can commiserate about your foolish partners.

That's probably for the best, he's difficult even in the best of times. But one would think that is the right time for a last resort chat.

Neither of us were loyal to the royal house. They'll realize that soon enough. Our positions were based on necessity.

It doesn't matter what the truth of it is, if they decide they need to make an example of someone.

They know what happened the last time an execution was attempted.

Sidwell's a smart man, he has no reason to want a Summoned riot when we've otherwise been a peaceful group here.

I do think he's symbolically warning us, but going any further would only backfire. It's wiser to try and make allies instead.

Do you plan on going that path again? I assume being back in your human form would be a difficult adjustment.

No. The technology I used to enact such augmentation would be too dangerous in the hands of the Free Cities. I don't have the power I did in the imagined future--I would not be able to hide it from them.

It is likely that is the road we will eventually go down, we will get those powers again. The "New Gods" were like us once, thousands of years ago.
