"If you did, I don't recall." Those hundreds of years had a lot of blank spots in his mind, with the highlights as memories, including the reason they could be more awkward than they currently are. But Istredd doesn't really feel like allowing that to get in the way of a friendship, strange or not. It was in another lifetime. Istredd has a very sharp mind and memory normally.
Istredd's eyebrows raise and he probably would have jumped to tattoo, because anyone could be interested in a tattoo. He would likely be curious about what it represents to him and ask another time, as tattoos are supposed to mean something unless forced upon someone, but it appears that is not the case here.
"I think you should go ahead and explain. I'm not great at hinting around topics." As Gale may know by now, Istredd is absolutely terrible at picking up on subtle things. He is about as subtle as a book thrown to the head.
